Happy Friday and Merry Christmas friends! I know we are still about two weeks away from Christmas, but I can’t help but be excited to share my Vintage Christmas home tour with thrifted decor and DIY ideas with you all today. In the blogging and YouTube world, I always feel like I am a bit behind, but I am trying my best no to feel that way this holiday season!

This week on YouTube, I will be sharing part two of my Christmas home tour. Be sure to check out the first part of my Christmas home tour above, or over on YouTube where I talk through my thought process while I decorate.

I decided to use a bunch of real cedar greenery this year that my sweet husband went and gathered for me. I usually soak my cedar in the bathtub for 24 hours before decorating with it and then let it dry out a bit before I “sprinkle” it all over my home. I love to use natural elements and bring the outdoors in, especially this time of the year.

I usually start in my entryway, adding a bunch of fresh cedar to the three tiered basket by my front door. I use velvet ribbon all throughout my home as well, and my entryway is no exception. A little bow on my basket and wreath adds a little festive touch in this space.

I hung up a large garland on my reclaimed beams with some string lights to add coziness and warmth, plus an antique wooden snow shovel. On my number hooks, I have a small wreath and ice skates hung up over the little bench my husband gifted me earlier this year, and another wreath with a vintage angel ornament on my entryway closet door.

I then went to my living room to tuck some fresh cedar into the shelves by my fireplace mantel. I love our fireplace all year, but I especially love it at Christmas time. There is nothing cozier than curling up by a crackling fire in the winter with a warm cup of coffee and the twinkling glow of Christmas lights! I always hang a large garland on my mantel, as well as our white stockings and sleigh bells. A pair of vintage snowshoes next to a basket full of blankets completes the look.

Of course, the real star of the show here is my Christmas tree! I have had this tree for several years now and I just adore the simple, realistic look it has. I am always striving to use vintage Christmas decor and my ornaments are no exception. So many beautiful vintage ornaments are actually thrift store finds!

However, I have also done a few DIY projects to add some homemade ornaments as well. The homemade ornaments combined with the vintage adds so much charm to my cottage style tree. I also have a tutorial on my YouTube blog on how I created the mercury glass like garland.

During the holiday season, I like to push my armchairs back a bit into the corners of my living room to make more space for the festivities. Behind one chair, I have hung an ornate gold framed mirror to reflect the lights off of the tree, complete with a Merry Christmas sign and greenery.

A simple wooden stocking and some ribbon hangs next to the mirror. Behind the other chair, I have stacked a pair of snow skis and hung a wreath to add a pop of color to this corner.

Next we move into my sunroom! I have added fresh cedar to the built-in shelves, as well as a garland strung across the windows. I got this wooden horse a few years back, and I love the whimsy it adds to this room. Continuing with the whimsical theme, I added some little brass instruments, including a french horn, cymbals and little bells.

I also have a smaller Christmas tree in my sunroom. Someday I will probably have a tree in every room haha I know it may not be everyone’s taste to have so many trees, but I love it! This tree features more DIY ornaments as well as some wooden bead garland.

Our next space to tour is my dining room! Once again, you will find another Christmas tree in between my dining room and kitchen. I can’t help myself! However, I tried to keep my decor minimal, opting for a simple centerpiece of brass candlesticks and taper candles with a copper pitcher. My table gets used daily for meals and homeschool, so practical decor is a must!

On my dining room console table, I added a few gold, silver and cream bottle brush trees as well as a eucalyptus swag to the frame of the mirror hanging above. I have fresh cedar tucked into the garland hanging throughout my dining room, as well as some fresh cedar and ribbon tucked into the chandelier.

I also love adding little festive vintage Christmas details on my shelves in our dining room. More sprigs of cedar, and little decor items I have found throughout the years thrifting and antiquing, along with a very special Santa Claus mold from my grandparents.

Finally we have my kitchen! Again, this is a space that I use all day long so I try to keep my decor minimal and practical, yet still include plenty of Christmas magic. I have tucked fresh cedar throughout, from my garlands to my countertops.

I added a garland with some string lights to my stone accent wall, as well as some empty gift boxes to the basket above my refrigerator. I was so excited to decorate my new cottage style inspired vent hood with a big, beautiful wreath. I hung a vintage Christmas print next to the stove and sprinkled a few smaller bottle brush trees there as well.

I may have gone a little overboard with the fresh cedar, but much like Christmas trees, I can’t help myself haha I feel as though cedar has such a vintage feel to it, plus you can’t beat free and fresh decor, as we were able to cut some sprigs from my parent’s backyard!

I know I say this almost every season, but Christmas is so special to me and I absolutely love this time of year in December! The nostalgia, holiday celebrations, cozy glow of lights and the time spent making special memories with my family is truly priceless, but the time spent pondering the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ is truly the most precious part of the season. I pray you all have a wonderful holiday, and my thoughts and prayers especially go out to those who are going through a difficult season in life.

  1. Your home is lovely, Andrea! It certainly reflects a spirit of love and peace. You look lovely in your dress, too, especially with the frilled sweater.

We are remodeling an older cottage with our crew of children and I’m gleaning a lot of inspiration from your blog. Thank you for sharing so many wonderful DIYs!

Warm blessings from a new follower.

      1. I did see it and saved it! I love how you and your husband work so well together and feel blessed to have a husband who can tackle just about any project. Now that my boys and girls are getting old enough to really pitch in it is amazing what all we can get accomplished. You have a wonderful crew of helpers too!

  2. I love everything you’ve done and really like the changes you’ve made to your kitchen, the stone wall in particular. You mentioned soaking natural cedar in water overnight. Does that remove the tom cat smell? I grew up in northwest Missouri. We had red cedar trees there and the odor made using them as Christmas trees a challenge.

  3. Andrea, you do a look of serene simplicity so beautifully at Christmas. Never overdone, never cluttery, never sterile either. Just the right note. I do a nostalgic vintage look. I love your style, too, very much. I don’t do “nostalgia threw up in here” just because it is red and there are ceramic Santas and vintage ceramic trees here. It is not messy mayhem here and “overload.” Lol. I think in the old days most people had their Christmas tree, a wreath for the door, maybe a nativity or decorative item or two among the vintage things I have. They did not seem to me to have ALL of the elements. Not a cluttery style. I do not want to do an overload. I definitely have a heart for your style, too, very much so. I love its peacefulness and beauty. You inspire me the way you do in your home. Very lovely.
