AirStone Accent Wall in our Cottage Kitchen

Today I am finally sharing all the details about our Airstone accent wall in our cottage kitchen, as well as a few other updates that we made recently to add even more character to the space!
I mentioned our AirStone Accent Wall in our cottage kitchen last year after I had decorated the space for spring, but I never really went into detail or shared much more than photos of the wall.

When we finished our AirStone fireplace makeover a few years ago, I happened to have a few boxes of stone left. I loved the way that the fireplace turned out and I really wanted to utilize the leftover stone.
I played around with ideas until I finally decided to install the AirStone on the far wall of our cottage style kitchen.

Since I followed the same exact steps that I shared in our AirStone fireplace makeover, I won’t go in to all the details in this post. Once I finished installing the stone, I gave the wall the โGerman schmearโ technique just like I did the fireplace. You can read all about that process here if you’re interested!
I love the way that the AirStone accent wall turned out, but I didnโt like how the stone was level with the window and baseboard trim. I felt that the stone would look more authentic if the window and baseboard trim sat on top of the stone.
Here’s what the wall looked like when we finished adding the stone –

So here we are, over a year later and weโve finally tackled this little project! I will share more details on how we created this new look for the window next week, but for now I just want to share the finished product!

My husband built out the trim to match the style of the other windows throughout our home, very similar to the cased opening tutorial that I shared a few weeks ago. He also added faux French panels to the window which I absolutely love!

On a whim I decided to stain the wood just to see if I would like it before painting it white. After staining itโฆI happened to really like it!! I feel like it adds a lot of warmth to our kitchen which is mostly white and black.

Weโll see if I end up keeping it this way, but so far I really think I like it!
My husband also cut down a 1×8 board and nailed it to the existing baseboard to match the depth of window trim.

Now I truly feel like the Airstone accent wall in our cottage kitchen is finished!
Another thing we decided to do was case out the opening that leads into our kitchen, just like we did in the entryway. I cannot believe the difference! Something so simple adds so much character to the dining room now.

I also ordered new cup style pulls for our drawers and I really like them, but I donโt think they flow well with the door handle hardware that weโve had for 8 years now. Iโm still trying to decide if I should order different handles, what do you think?

So far I love the direction our kitchen is headed. The AirStone accent wall led to so many other changes, our faux beams being one of them!
I have more dreams for this space, like a white antique sink and maybe even some vintage appliances…but for now I am so pleased with how far this kitchen has come!

What do you think of the new window trim? Do you like the stained finish against the AirStone accent wall? Let me know in the comments below!
