A few weeks ago I shared a post about keeping your home clean and tidy as a busy homemaker, and I also shared a YouTube video detailing how I give my home a nice deep clean. This got me thinking about all things spring, as one of my favorite early spring activities is decluttering and deep cleaning my home. You can watch how I deep clean my home here!

There is still plenty of snow here in Michigan, but with the beginning of March, I have spring on the brain! March really is the perfect time to transition your home from winter decor to spring decor, and you can really take your time deep cleaning each room and replacing your seasonal decor as the new season approaches.

You know that I really love to savor the season I am in, as well as being intentional with my home decor, so taking my time really helps me to be organized and make sure I’m not making any panic purchases with my early spring decor. I always like to “shop” what I already own before I make any new decor purchases!

Today I want to share several ways you can give your home that early spring feel with a few simple changes. From a switch of throw pillows and throw blankets to bringing in fresh greenery stems and floral arrangements, you can transform your living space to give your home a fresh start.

Declutter And Deep Clean For A Fresh Start

I always start the transition from winter with a home spring cleaning. Is there a better feeling than deep cleaning and organizing everything? Maybe that’s just my type A personality haha If deep cleaning and decluttering has you feeling overwhelmed, I have found that the easiest way to do it is to go slow and take it one space at a time.

Use natural air purifiers

Set realistic goals, and don’t overwhelm yourself trying to do it all in one day. I will pick a space and give myself two to three goals to try to accomplish in that room for the day or even for the week. Making a realistic checklist will really help you to accomplish your goals and not get burned out before you even really begin.

For example, in my living room, I have two armchairs that have slipcovers that need frequent cleanings with four boys, so I will set aside time in my day to make sure they get a wash. I also have an ottoman that is full of toys, so maybe I will sit down and go through them to figure out what can stay and what can be tossed or donated. I’ll then do a deep clean with my favorite Norwex cloth, making sure every surface is sparkling from the floorboards to my ceiling light.

When it comes to decluttering, you also have to be honest with yourself with what you actually use and what you haven’t touched in months or years. I am definitely guilty of hoarding because I am always asking, “but what if I do end up needing this someday?” That is not the right mindset to have haha if you haven’t used something in over a year, it’s probably time to donate it!

Bring Nature Inside With Florals And Greenery

Guys, you do not have to spend a lot of money on florals and greenery! If you are blessed to be in a warmer state, take advantage of the plants in your own backyard and clip some fresh stems to bring inside. I do this every year, and you can’t beat free, fresh greenery.

If you happen to live in a colder climate like me and don’t have access to fresh greenery until May or June, often times your local grocery store with have fresh flowers that are more affordable than a florist like tulips, daffodils and other spring blooms. However, when it comes to flowers, I usually opt for faux flowers, stems and wreaths as it is an investment you can use year after year.

You could also consider investing in some indoor plants! The benefits having indoor plants range from better air quality to increasing productivity and focus. Whether you prefer fresh or faux, adding greenery to your decor will instantly give your home that fresh, spring feel!

Update Textiles To Lighten Your Space

Now that the worst of winter is behind us, you can start to switch out your fabrics for lighter materials like linens and cottons. Switch out that dark toned, heavy wool blanket for a lighter toned, throw blanket. Change up your pillow cases for a pretty spring pattern. I really love to keep a simple color palette when it comes to my interior design, but sometimes floral patterns really catch my eye.

Just because the weather is getting warmer doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice coziness. Make some simple swaps to bring in a fresh new look to your spaces. Think light and bright when it comes to materials you are choosing.

Bring The Light In

Speaking of light and bright, the best way to bring in spring is with light! I absolutely love my woven roller shades from Select Blinds because they filter light without completely darkening a room. They give me privacy when I need it, but when the sun is shining, they can easily be rolled up to let those rays in. I’ve had them for over five years and they have held up so well.

However, you could also make a simple switch of exchanging dark, heavy drapes for lighter curtains. I have an easy, no sew way to sew curtains so you can make them out of any material! I have used shower curtains for my windows because I fell in love with the texture and pattern. Plus, as a homemaker I am always looking ways to be frugal and save.

Another easy way I bring in the light is simply by opening up my front door. This may seem a little silly, but if you have a screen door, simply opening up your door will add so much light to your home. It also gives me a lovely little view of my front porch and my boys playing in out in the yard. So open those doors and blinds, and let the sunshine stream in!

Add Fresh Scents For Spring

I’m sorry if I am starting to sound repetitive, but I am really passionate about sharing my favorite non-toxic, clean burning candle! Antique Candle Co. has some delicious, fresh scents from Fresh Cut Herbs to Blueberry Cobbler. These candles smell heavenly and last forever. Plus, they make excellent gifts!
