Today I’m sharing how to create a beautiful, organized pantry area in your home!

Hello and happy Friday friends! Today I want to share how I created my organized pantry space! Recently I’ve been sharing a lot about finding beauty in the mundane. Some bloggers are calling it “romanticizing” your life; take your every day, ordinary tasks and try to create something beautiful out of them. Light a delicious smelling candle and turn on some soft music while you wash your dishes. Bring your laundry outside and fold clothes in the sunshine. Turn small, basic spaces in your home into beautiful little pockets that make you smile when you look at them.

For me, one of these small, basic spaces is my pantry area! You may think the pantry is just a throw away space to store your food and then forget about, but for me, I really wanted my pantry to be an extension of my kitchen. My goal was not only to create a beautiful space, but to have a beautiful and organized pantry area. Beautiful and organized is music to my ears!

Pantry Storage & Organization

So, how can you have an organized pantry while still keeping with an aesthetic design? The secret lies within the storage and containers you use! Wire baskets, glass jars or clear canisters are all ways you can elevate your pantry staples. Whether your pantry is in a closet or open shelves, the way you display your ingredients make a huge difference in the overall look.

Instead of storing dry goods and baking ingredients in the bags they came in, I chose to use glass canisters from Walmart to store them! I love these large ones with glass lids, and the smaller ones with metal lids are perfect for dry ingredients that need to be kept air tight. Grains like flour, oatmeal, and rice can be stored in glass canisters, as well as dry beans, brown sugar, spices and even pasta. The options are truly limitless and will make your pantry shelf space so beautiful and organized.

I love using baskets to store my fresh produce, as you can easily see what is being kept in your kitchen storage space, while still using cute decor. The metal baskets on the top shelf are from Target, and, believe it or not, I found them in the dollar spot for $3 each. They fit so perfectly in my kitchen pantry open shelving! You can find similar items here. You could also consider clear bins for fresh fruits and veggies!

If you are looking to store your kids snacks, baskets are a great way to go! They can conceal chip bags, boxes of crackers or granola bars so you don’t have to constantly be staring at a crinkly, half eaten bag of chips haha You can find really cute, budget-friendly basket labels on Amazon, or you can purchase baskets that already have the labels attached!

Food storage containers can also help you keep your ingredients better organized with a simple label maker and written expiration dates. Be sure you watch my YouTube video for my labeling method! I used dry erase stickers inside the lids to keep track of expiration dates!

Pantry Design

Storing your pantry items in pretty baskets and jars with labels did wonders for my pantry organization, but I still wanted this space to be beautiful! Originally, my pantry area was just a just an empty space next to my fridge in the back of my kitchen. I had a vision to create a counter space with open shelving to have my pantry ingredients easily accessible.

We installed beadboard paneling and some open shelving with beautiful wood corbels. I love these corbels so much and have used them all throughout my home, including my kitchensunroomdining room, and even the boys bedroom

Once the wooden corbels were in place, I caulked everything and painted it all Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. The trim throughout my kitchen is painted this color, and I love the cottage style look that this warm shade of grey gives to my home. I also think it looks so beautiful against my  stone feature wall

Another pantry organization idea for you: if you have an open countertop like this, install a little linen curtain underneath to hide your trashcan! This is another small way to make your space more beautiful. We added an affordable curtain rod and some curtain rings underneath the pantry, and I love the texture that the fabric adds – it’s just a curtain that I found at Goodwill, brand new from Target! I cut it to size and I love the linen feel.

I added a wooden cutting board, as I’m always using this area to chop up ingredients. A spice rack may be a future addition, as well as some hooks for hanging measuring cups, aprons or towels. Of course I’m always switching up the pitchers and vases I use in this area, but I usually like to have some fresh flowers or stems back here to bring beauty and freshness to this little space.

Now, while I absolutely love this pantry space, it doesn’t quite fit everything we have on hand. We are blessed to have a closet pantry area as well that was installed with the kitchen cabinets by the previous owner. With four boys who eat all day long, we often have to buy our food in bulk and so the extra storage space is necessary!

I always want to be transparent with you guys! While I love this beautiful pantry space and I share pretty, clean pictures of my kitchen, the reality is that sometimes you need a little extra storage space, and it’s okay to hide cereal boxes or jars of peanut butter in your cupboards instead of trying to find unique and pretty ways to store everything.

Please don’t feel like my kitchen is perfect all of the time! Often this little pantry space is home to little sippy cups and half eaten fruit that my toddler will finish later. You do what works best for you and your family! Remember the most important part of homemaking isn’t keeping a perfectly clean and organized home; the most important thing is caring for your family!

  1. Your visible pantry space is absolutely lovely! I like that you have different pantry zones (one area to display pretty produce and glass canisters with baking items on desktop and the other area behind doors for all the other stuff). If possible, it would be cool to see how you organize/manage all the extra food/preparedness for your family of 6 + feline members in the adjacent pantry space that’s behind doors. I always appreciate learning different and new ways to manage the stuff of life.

In my case, we have a cozy corner pantry (behind closed door), and I use clear plastic shoe boxes from The Container Store as bins to store food boxes, bag packages, jars, cans, etc. The clear plastic shoe boxes work well for my shallow 12-13″ shelves, since they maximize shelf storage (these boxes are a tiny bit longer than my pantry shelf and they secure the items from falling off the front part of the shelves; the boxes actually extend a shallow shelf). Each shoe box holds 8 regular-sized 16 oz cans and 8 regular-sized peanut butter containers. These shoe boxes have helped me to manage keeping the right amount of food back-ups (not too much but I can easily see when it’s time to replenish). And, these boxes are easy to pull out like a drawer. Also, I can easily take my entire ‘baking box’ or my ‘seasoning box’ to counter or tabletop to work on recipes. It’s been helpful to find a solution that works well with challenges that come from cooking with a disability.

I keep the prettiest food packaging at front of box and try to keep colors neutral and less visually busy.

I love all the artistry you put into the everyday. Thanks for the inspiration! ❤️

  2. I absolutely love your creativity and practical suggestions. I have followed since the beginning. It brings me a lot of joy.
I have looked for the glass storage containers you use in your pantry space with the metal lids. I have not been successful. You shared the large glass lid containers, but would you mind sharing the source of the jars with the silver colored lids? If you could, I would appreciate it.
Have a wonderful day enjoying your home and family!
