Simple Summer Home Decor: Ideas And Inspiration For Your Home

Can you believe it’s already July? We spend much of the summer months outdoors soaking in the sunshine while we can here in Michigan! The kids can usually be found swimming in the pool, swinging in the hammock, or lounging around our DIY Pea gravel patio playing with bugs and snakes. Got to love boys!

However, even though much of my summertime is spent outside in the backyard making sure my boys don’t get into too much dirt or trouble, I still want beautiful summer home decor for the inside of my home! Today I want to share some simple summer decorating ideas with you today, both from my blog and from other blogs to hopefully inspire you as you decorate your home for summer.

For me, the best summer decor is bright, simple and airy. Summer is time for a fresh look in your home; think a bouquet of fresh flowers, landscape artwork, natural textures in your fabrics like linen or cotton. There are so many possibilities when it comes to decorating your home for summer, whether you prefer to keep things neutral like me, or bring in lots of colors for a bright look.

Entryway

In my entryway, one of the easiest ways I decorate for summer is to add a pop of color with beautiful blooms! You can see that I have added a few stems to my wicker three tiered basket by my front door, and to the straw bag hanging on my closet door. Flowers and stems really reflect the season you are decorating for, and can be a budget friendly option if you use fresh clippings from your yard or gardens!

I also like to add sun hats or a jean jacket on my number hooks as summery accessories. A few other accessories to consider are beach towels, benches, or gardening tools. Even things you use everyday like a cute pair of shoes or sandals can be an easy summer decor idea! My entryway is always full of little shoes during the summer, and that’s okay! Embrace the season you are in.

Living Room

In my living room, I am always switching up my coffee table; however, you can almost always find a vase or jar with flowers on it no matter the season. Like I said earlier, flowers and stems reflect the season so well! For summer, I try to stick to neutral bright whites or creams when it comes to blooms, but a pop of color is always welcome.

I also like to get out my lighter throw blankets and throw pillows to use on my sofa and Ikea chairs. Light blues, grey and green tones are my absolute favorite. However, if you love to add bright colors to your interiors, go for it! Drape some pretty, colorful blankets over your couch, or even switch up your curtains to a fun summery pattern. You all know I love a simple gingham pattern!

Dining Room

For my dining room, I like to keep things really simple. I took this photo a few weeks back before I decided to switch up my chairs yet again. While I love these chairs, I just felt they needed a little more depth. You can watch how I transformed my dining room chairs with a darker stain in my recent YouTube video. I love how they turned out, and I will have to share a post on my process of staining the chairs darker soon.

I like to put out my striped pillows on my wicker chairs and add a few accents of stems clipped from my yard. House plants are another great option for summer decor – the bright green leaves fill your home with new life. You can also display fresh fruit like lemons, oranges or peaches in a pretty bowl on your dining room table. When decorating with bowls, whether wooden or glass, I like to use quaint little tea towels laid out next to them.

Kitchen

My kitchen has gone through some big changes recently, and I love adding little seasonal touches here and there to let the beauty of my kitchen shine through. I have a large wicker hamper that stays on top of my fridge, and I like to add flowers to the basket and a little towel to make the space more aesthetically pleasing. The way the flowers pop against the stone accent wall is so dreamy.

Another, and maybe unexpected, way to decorate for summer is by switching up your candles! By changing scents from something heavy like vanilla to something light and fresh like citrus can really give your home summer vibes without physically changing anything.

I love Pineapple Coconut, a warm, sunny aroma of sweet pineapple and fresh coconut, highlighted with palm leaf, soft pear, and tropical woods. Sun-Kissed Citrus is a new scent that is a blend of sugary orange, citrus zest, fresh mango, & crisp pineapple; trust me, it smells like summer!

If you want to keep things budget-friendly, use items you may already have on hand, such as sun hats, gardening tools, fresh fruit or fresh flowers and stem clippings from your yard and garden.

While summer vacation is a wonderful time to spend outside in the warm, sunshiny weather with my boys, I still strive to create a beautiful space in my home with summer decor.
