Simple and Neutral Fall Decor Ideas

Today I’m sharing some simple and neutral fall decor ideas in my living room!

Hey friends, I was finally able to add some simple and neutral fall decor this past weekend, and I thought I would start off by sharing our living room with you all!

I’m sharing my fall decor today along with two special friends, Sarah from Grace in My Space and Cami over at Tidbits blog! I love both of these girls and I consider them close friends. We are not only sharing fall decor ideas on our blogs, but also on our YouTube channels as well!

Be sure to watch the video tour above and when you’re finished, check out Sarah and Cami’s fall spaces – I know you’ll love them! 🙂

I kept things pretty simple this year, just like I always do. I’ve said it so many times, but you don’t have to go crazy decorating for the seasons. I spent very little, and I really only made a few changes!

There are just three simple things I like to do whenever I’m decorating my living room for fall –

  • Incorporate fall stems
  • Bring in texture with pillows and throws
  • Decorate with real pumpkins

Since our entry opens up into the living room and the two spaces flow together, let’s start with that space, first!

You can see that the only change I really made in this area was adding some simple fall stems to my basket near the door.

If you caught my fall shop along post I shared recently, you know that I scored these pretty stems at Joann Fabrics. I got them for half off, and I love the cream, white and rust colored berries mixed with the faded green leaves.

And here’s another tip when decorating for fall – incorporate real, dried leaves with your faux fall stems! The dried leaves not only add texture, but also create whimsy and give your arrangements a more realistic look.

I simply snipped some leaves from my redbud tree and let them dry out. I love the way they look mixed with these berries!

A few real pumpkins on the floor of my entry make me happy. My husband took the boys with him to a local pumpkin stand, and they were so excited to bring home the pumpkins they had picked for mom.

Faux pumpkins work just as fine, but there’s something about the real ones – the experience of picking them out, the colors and textures they have – that just add another natural element to my fall decor.

As we make our way in the living room, you will find the same berries on the table next to my couch. They add so much whimsy for fall and the simple addition of a single white pumpkin instantly creates an autumn feeling.

The coffee table stems are also new, another Joann Fabrics score! I love the pop of white and more baby boo pumpkins in my vintage scoop are perfect for neutral fall decorating.

A soft muslin blanket adds cozy, neutral texture to the couch, along with some oat colored pillow covers that I scored here!

I only made a few changes in the fireplace area, one of my favorites being the 50 cent bushel basket that I scored at a garage sale near the end of summer. It adds texture and warmth, and I love how beat up and worn it is.

I filled it with stems that I purchased last year at Hobby Lobby, and I love how the cream flowers pop against the stone. And did you notice the baby boo pumpkins peeking out of the dough bowl? I love tucking them everywhere I can!

I added more of those berry stems in the opposite corner near the window, again mixing them with dried leaves. They sit inside of an old mason jar centered in a vintage enamel bowl, and I love all the texture happening in this corner!

More neutral, textured pillows fill the chair, making it so cozy and the perfect spot to curl up with a book. Right now I’m reading The Life-giving Home by Sally Clarkson, and it’s the perfect book for this season!

I know the sunroom is a separate space, but if you peek into the French doors you can see those same pretty stems on the piano! I love how they pop against the built-ins.

  1. Thank you So Much, Andrea, for keeping it simple…. and in the process making your home simply beautiful, warm, and so inviting! I am likely old enough to be your mom (I’m somehow 51 after a few sleeps and a blink! 😄), and I can honestly say your entire vibe inspires and encourages me! I have had ten children (whom I have been processing through homeschooling for 27 years!) and have sat at Sally Clarkson’s feet here and there since they started Whole Heart! ☺️ And I can honestly say your little home is hands down my most favorite house crush ever! We are currently knee-deep in the work of building our fifth home ourselves, and yes, we do the bulk of all the labor ourselves, and I even chose to incorporate Stone Hearth and Edgecomb Gray paints based off of my fan-girling yours!

Thank you for all you do to make that adorable house a home for your Little Men …. and their Daddy, too! 🥰 I know just how hard it can be…. but curating a little reflection of our future Home atmosphere is the best job ever! I’m so proud of you! ☺️

    1. Thank you so much for sharing all of this! 27 years is so admirable, and your new home sounds so beautiful! Thank you for taking the moment to comment and encourage me today!

  2. Your Fall decor is lovely Andrea. Until I started following you, I’d never really considered faux stems. Of course I’d purchased garlands and greenery, but never buds, berries or actual faux flowers. We, like your family, don’t have local access to fresh flowers. One day, I ran into Hobby Lobby for a yard of material and as I passed the floral section, which was half off that particular day, I thought of a recently watched post of yours and ended up with a beautiful bouquet for Summer. They weren’t that expensive and considering I never have to toss them, they’re well worth the cost. Now I need to visit JoAnn’s for Fall! I just wanted to let you know that you inspire me, even when I’m out running errands. Enjoy the last bit of Summer.

  3. So beautiful and peaceful…in the corner where you have the chair by the fireplace?????are those 3D ducks hanging? Are they wooden? We have some from a local artist, but they are wooden. I thought it could be a perfect way to display them. Enjoy your weekend.

  4. Love your simple Fall decorating. Is the muslin throw from Amazon as well? Would love to find one like it. God Bless

  5. Your home is beautiful ! I love how simple, yet calming it is. Could you please link where you got the grey throw blanket with the small white x’s? It’s beautiful !
