Kingsport Gray by Benjamin Moore – Cottage Style Examples

Today I am excited to show you one of my favorite paint colors! I hope these images featuring Kingsport Gray by Benjamin Moore are a help to you!
A sweet follower over on YouTube recently told me that Kingsport Gray by Benjamin Moore was one of Benjamin Moore’s color trends for 2021, and since I have that color in several places throughout my home, I thought that a blog post with examples would be really helpful!
Kingsport Gray by Benjamin Moore – Cottage Style Examples Throughout my Home
I first discovered this color two years ago when we purchased our corner cabinet on Facebook Marketplace. It was a dark forest green when we brought it home, but I envisioned it painted a beautiful muddy gray with all of my white Pfaltzgraff inside.

I went to Pinterest for inspiration and came across this lovely color. Since there are no Benjamin Moore stores near me, I settled and had Kingsport Gray matched at my local True Value Hardware. Honestly, I don’t recommend doing this because True Value’s tints will never be the same as Benjamin Moore’s. Thankfully I ended up really loving the color, but it’s a big risk to take.

In my recent YouTube video linked below, I did some spring cleaning and decorating in my entryway and I touched up the Kingsport Gray in that space as well.
I was all out of the original color I had mixed a few years ago, so I ran to my True Value and had another quart mixed up. Guess what? True Value up dated their entire paint line, so this new color isn’t an exact match to the Kingsport Gray I had mixed originally.
My point exactly.
I think I can get away with the slight difference for now, but in the future I think it might be worth finding a Benjamin Moore Store for Benjamin Moore colors, lol.
The back door in our kitchen is also painted in Kingsport Gray, and I love the color in this space. I really love the way it warms up the room, especially since the primary colors are black and white.

The last place that I have Kingsport Gray in our home is in my entryway, like I said before. When we gave our entryway a makeover a few years ago and added beadboard to all of the walls, I decided to keep the space white.
I loved how bright and fresh it felt, but I wanted there to be some warmth and contrast. Enter Kingsport Gray! I just love how it looks on my closet door as you enter our home, and I decided to carry the color over to the top of the banister, stair railing and window.

Kingsport Gray by Benjamin Moore – Cottage Style Examples: Is it considered Brown? Or is it Gray?
The question that I am probably asked the most in regards to Kingsport Gray is whether it’s brown or gray. I think that it definitely leans more brown, but with gray undertones. Does that make sense?

Some brown colors have red or yellow undertones, but Kingsport Gray is such a true neutral with notes of gray. It’s a cooler color, yet it adds a beautiful warmth to every space that I’ve used it in.
Well I hope this round up of Kingsport Gray throughout my home was a help to you! If you have further questions about the color, please let me know in the comments below!

I have a friend, who is third generation owner/manager of a paint and wallpaper store They have always stocked Benjamin Moore Paint, saying it is the best for so many reasons. FYI: If you don’t have a BM dealer nearby, they will ship to your home. They will not do exchanges, if you don’t care for the colour, so best to be very sure before ordering. Here’s an idea, for painting small areas, like around the closet door knob, use a Q-tip.
Wow, this is great to know. Thank you so much!
We recently bought a home that has Kingsport Gray as the wall paint in the living and dining rooms. I can’t paint the trim which is really a soft cream. I like the Kingsport Gray and I’m looking for a paint for the foyer that is lighter than KG but is a contrast to the trim. Any suggestions with your experience with this color?
I love so many grey toned paints, I actually wrote another blog post on the different shades I love, maybe try one of these? I hope this helps! https://www.pineandprospecthome.com/paint-colors-in-our-cottage-style-home/
Samplize will send you a 12 x 12 peel and stick sheet of Kingsport Gray for $5.95 plus shipping. Convenient way to try a paint color. Also, thinking of painting my white doors Kingsport Gray and forgive me if this is a silly question but, did you paint both sides?
I enjoy your videos and you are such a refreshing inspiration, please keep them coming.
Wow, that is so good to know! Thank you! I only paint the outside of the door as well, I hope this helps!
So lovely. Can I ask what the paint is that is above the bird and batten behind the hutch? It looks perfect with the hutch color!
Hello Kristen, it is actually a color I made, but I share a similar color in this post: https://www.pineandprospecthome.com/paint-colors-in-our-cottage-style-home/ I actually have it painted another color now. 🙂
