Happy Friday friends! I hope everyone has been enjoying the fall season so far. It is starting to cool down here in Michigan, and we have already knocked a few items off of our fall bucket list, including picking out pumpkins from a local stand and going to a corn maze! Fall activities can be so much fun, but I also try to bring the cozy feel of autumn into my home with fall homemaking.

A few weeks ago, I shared a whole fall home tour where I shared my autumn inspired home decor with you. I covered the minimalistic fall decor I used in our entryway, living room, sunroom, dining room and finally our cozy kitchen. If you need some inspiration for decor, I hope you will check it out!

Although I absolutely love sharing my cozy home decor with all of you, my true passion is homemaking. I wanted to share a some cozy fall kitchen decor along with some simple homemaking ideas to give you an idea of how I bring fall into the heart of our home, my kitchen.

Of course decorating your home and making the space feel homey and inviting is a part of homemaking, but there are other elements that are important as well! Today I will be covering seasonal decor ideas, creating a cozy atmosphere, and a fall inspired recipe.
Cozy Fall Kitchen Decor
In my fall home tour post, I shared that I try not to make my kitchen too “busy” with fall decor. I used my kitchen counters every day for cooking and baking, so it is just not practical to load them up with decor that I will have to move out of the way every time I need some space. I know my kitchen may not always be this busy, but the current season I am in with four growing and hungry boys really has us using the kitchen all day long.

However, just a few touches of fall here and there really helps to bring the beauty of the season into this space. One place that always gets some fall stems is the basket above my refrigerator. A favorite way of mine to fill in the void above a fridge is to use wicker baskets! You can change what you put in them depending on the season, and it makes my stainless steel fridge feel less cold with their texture.

To my counters, I added a few small pumpkins in a couple corner of my countertops, but feel free to use gourds, pinecones, acorns or apples if you prefer to decorate with those fall staples for autumn. I also added a few stems to a vase on my counters, and of course, some dried hydrangeas to the vase on my kitchen table. I love bringing in natural elements to reflect the outdoors inside of my home.

I really love to keep things simple in my kitchen, but use pieces intentionally to make a big impact. A few pumpkins and fall stems really sets the fall mood in this space and ups the cozy factor! However, please don’t feel like this is the only way to decorate for the season. If you love to fill up your space with bushels of wheat and garlands of leaves, please do what makes you happy! That is the beauty of decorating; everyone has their own style that should be celebrated!

Creating A Cozy Atmosphere
Speaking of the cozy factor, fall is one of my favorite times of the year for a reason; it is just so cozy to have a candles burning with some delicious apple crisp or pumpkin spice cake baking in the stove. The fall season absolutely calls for yummy baked goods and a scrumptious smelling candle!

It may seem so simple, but truly these few things can truly add so much warmth to your home. My favorite memories of my mother growing up were of her always decorating so beautifully for the seasons and baking us sweet treats to enjoy every week. Our childhood home always smelled wonderful as she always had cinnamon potpourri burning. These practices have stuck with me, and I now implement them in my fall homemaking.

I always share my favorite, non-toxic and clean burning candles with all because I just love them so much and can’t recommend them enough! My favorite scents for the autumn season are pumpkin bread, spice cake, fall harvest and mama’s kitchen. I absolutely want my boys to remember their childhood home the way I do; sweet smells, beautiful decor and baked goods filled with love.

Fall Inspired Recipe
I have shared this apple crisp recipe before, but it is one of my favorite fall sweet treats for a reason! It is seriously so simple, and you probably already have most of the ingredients in your pantry already.

We have a wonderful neighbor who lets us pick apples off of his tree nearly every year, so apples are easy to come by for us haha I prefer apples that are tart for baking, as I end up combining them with plenty of sweet flavors. Wash and peel each apple and then cut them about a quarter inch thick each, placing them in your greased dish to bake.

I then combine the brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter in a bowl using my hands. You are welcome to use a mixer or a spoon if you’d prefer! You know your mixture is ready when it starts to stick together. Then you simply layer the mixture on top of your apples and bake until golden brown for 30 minutes.

And that’s it! A super simple, delicious apple crisp. I like to serve mine warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The entire dessert is usually gone in less time it takes to make it haha
