Happy Friday friends! Today I am sharing how to decorate a warm, cozy fall entryway with thrifted decor finds! This fall season has been so much fun here in Michigan, so many warm and sunny days for our family to enjoy and the colors right now are breathtaking! Our boys have enjoyed so many fun fall traditions too, like jumping in leaf piles and even visiting a pumpkin patch! We all really do enjoy fall.

At the beginning of the autumn season, I shared my full fall home tour with you. As many of you know, I like to keep my fall decorating very minimal and I prefer to use neutral colors like beiges and creams over traditional fall colors. I draw inspiration from the outdoors, bringing in natural elements to decorate for the season in my cottage-style home. My blog today is all about how to decorate a cozy fall entryway with thrifted decor.

It always surprises me how much interest my fall entryway decor gets on Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook, considering that space has the simplest fall decorating compared to my dining room or family room. Maybe the simplicity is why this room gets so much attention; it truly shows that home decor doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. Small, inexpensive changes can make a big impact.

Why Thrifted Decor?

When decorating your entryway for fall, I always encourage checking out thrift stores first for seasonal decor. Thrifted pieces have character, history, and a sense of warmth that can’t always be replicated with brand-new items. Plus, there’s something extra satisfying about transforming second-hand finds into cozy decor that looks custom-made for your space. The charm of thrifted decor adds an extra layer of coziness that store-bought pieces often lack.

Entrances are the first impression of your home, but you don’t have to spend a fortune to make a great one! I love Hobby Lobby, Joann, and other craft stores for fall decor, but I always encourage checking out thrift stores first for seasonal decor. In fact, most of the decor in my entryway was thrifted. Let’s get started on how to decorate a cozy fall entryway with thrifted decor.

How to Find the Perfect Thrifted Decor

If you’re new to thrifting or unsure of where to start, keep an open mind and focus on texture, material, and craftsmanship. A vintage wooden basket can be filled with dried fall stems, or a cozy wool blanket can instantly bring autumn warmth to your entryway. In fact, most of the decor in my entryway was thrifted. Let’s dive into some specific ideas on how to decorate a cozy fall entryway with thrifted decor.

Boots, Scarves, and Hats

A super easy and practical way to decorate for the autumn season is with seasonal clothing items! Pretty plaid scarves, a pair of rubber rain boots, and some straw hats hanging on decorative hooks not only bring in texture but also add autumnal flair to your entryway. Plus, these items are actually articles of clothing that you will wear during the season! Guests will feel welcome to hang up their own hat or leave their boots by the door, and it can just be considered part of your decor, ha!

Thrift stores are always loaded with plenty of boots, scarves, and hats, and you can score them for very affordable prices. I use clothing every year in my seasonal decor because it is so simple and affordable. It’s amazing how much fall coziness a simple plaid scarf can add to your space, especially when it’s draped over an entryway bench.

If you have an entryway table or bench, you can throw a big scarf over it like throw blankets, or simply hang a scarf up on a peg rack or hook. You can also line up your boots under the bench, which is especially adorable if you have little baby boots you can put on display.

Wreaths, Pumpkins, and Fall Stems

Another way to decorate a cozy fall entryway with thrifted decor is with wreaths, pumpkins, and fall foliage. I am always finding wreaths at the thrift store. Even if you find a plain grapevine wreath, you can easily DIY it into a fall wreath by adding seasonal leaves, berries, or flowers. This is a great way to personalize your decor while keeping it budget-friendly.

Consider using dried hydrangeas or other dried fall stems from your backyard. Not only is it free, but it also connects your home to the natural beauty of the season. While I love using real pumpkins and gourds, you can also find thrifted faux pumpkins that can be used year after year. A beautiful pumpkin placed on the floor near the door or a small basket of faux apples or pears adds the perfect autumn touch.

Cozy Fall Decor

While I love using the real thing, you can purchase second hand gourds, pumpkins and faux fruits as well that can be used year after year. A little basket of apples or pears on a bench and a beautiful, big pumpkin placed on the floor near your front door instantly brings fall into your home.

Baskets and Furniture

When I talk about how to decorate a cozy fall entryway with thrifted decor, I can’t help but mention baskets and furniture. These aren’t inherently seasonal items, but the way you style them can evoke that fall feeling. For example, a wicker basket filled with faux fall foliage or dried flowers can instantly warm up the space. Thrift stores are a great source for these items—look for vintage baskets, rustic wooden crates, or small benches.

Consider adding a plaid pillow to a bench or chair in your entryway. Plaid patterns and textures are iconic for fall and instantly bring cozy, cabin vibes into any space. Don’t be afraid to mix and match textures too, like pairing a chunky knit blanket with a soft flannel pillow.

Vintage Frames and Artwork

Thrift stores often have unique artwork or vintage frames that can be repurposed for seasonal decor. Look for old prints that feature nature scenes, animals, or even still-life depictions of fruits and vegetables. You can swap out the art with a fall-themed print if needed, or embrace the rustic charm of the vintage piece itself.

If you find an old frame that doesn’t have art in it, consider using it as a backdrop for a wreath or garland. It’s an unexpected way to add dimension and visual interest to your entryway.

Lighting Matters

Lighting plays a significant role in creating a cozy atmosphere. If you can find vintage lanterns, candle holders, or even small lamps at thrift stores, they can add an inviting glow to your entryway. Soft, warm lighting makes your space feel more intimate and welcoming. Don’t forget to check thrift stores for candles as well—especially those in fall scents like pumpkin spice or apple cider! Of course personally, I LOVE Antique Candle Company, they have so many fun fall scents you can shop here.

If you don’t like to have real candles, I have shared these fun battery powered candlesticks in the past that look so real! You can always find beautiful candle holders at the thrift store, a beautiful brass one, or even sconces you can hang like the one I have in my entryway all add to the fall coziness.
