Cottage Style Home Exterior Paint Colors Reveal: The Charming Cottage Colors We Chose

Today I am sharing the long awaited cottage style home exterior paint colors reveal!
Hello sweet friends! I am so excited to be sharing our cottage style home exterior paint colors reveal! I debated sharing the final results because I really wanted to update our front porch to complete the look. However, life has been so busy this summer that we just haven’t been able to get to the porch yet. I knew you would want to see the final results after reading the blog about our plans and inspiration to paint our little cottage style home, so I decided to take a few pics to share an update with you all!

It has been quite the journey to get here, as we had a mix up with paint color samples. We had so many wonderful paint ideas for our home, only to discover that the person who mixed the samples had accidentally labeled every single one of them incorrectly. Oh boy, was that a discouragement! You can watch some of the process below!
We went back to the drawing board and found two colors that we really loved together. I already had an idea that Revere Pewter might be a potential choice for our cottage style home exterior paint colors because we have this color on the interior of our home, so we painted the siding on the front of our home that color to test it out.

Next, we painted part of the shutters and the cedar shake the other color we chose; however, that particular color came through very pink/green in photographs. It was the strangest thing, as in person, it looked like a beautiful, subtle gray color.

At this point, I was beyond frustrated and discouraged. However, my husband, mom and sisters were great encouragers and helped me push forward. That was when I tried out Rockport Gray and knew I had found the one. After some trial and error, we settled on Revere Pewter for the siding and Rockport Gray darkened by 25% for the shutters and cedar shake. I love the final results! My home feels like an English cottage with the new colors, and I couldn’t be happier!

Now back to our front porch; our vision is some kind of stone patio. We’ve also been looking at stone samples for the porch, and I love the natural colors of stone for our color scheme. This stone was a DIY project years ago, but we didn’t do it properly and it’s falling off. Just another lesson learned as homeowners haha We want to bring the stone up higher and have it meet the pavers. We’re also planning new railings.

Now, let’s get back to the exterior paint color! We used Rockport Gray by Benjamin Moore 25% darker on the front door cedar shake siding. This is important to note because our home is south facing. We had a hard time figuring out our color palette because each side of the house looked different depending on how the sun hit it. We ended up putting the same shade on the shutters, and they looked too dark—crazy! So I’m considering switching the shutters and window boxes to the regular Rockport Gray. We’ll see haha

We painted the trim around the door and added trim to the storm door for a more traditional, classic cottage feel. It’s a stick-on trim I got from Amazon; it just peels and sticks on. It comes in black and white. We’re still playing with the placement, and I think that first line needs to drop down a bit. Also, I need a more spring-like wreath. The one up now is actually a fall wreath.

Now, this new lantern we hung by the front door, wow, I’m in love! It’s called weathered copper and has this gorgeous bubbled glass. It looks like aged copper with little teal speckles. We got one for the front and one for the shed.

Here’s a closer look at our window boxes. They’re going to fill in more over time. Mike built new ones, and we painted them Rockport Gray. They turned out beautifully, and I love the pop of color that the flowers have against the white trim of our windows. The window boxes really add to much curb appeal to our cottage exterior.

The planters on the porch are petunias, some lavender, and white geraniums. And I absolutely fell in love with the candy tufted perennials. They have so much charm and are a perfect addition for cottage-style homes.

The rest of the siding is Revere Pewter by BM and I love the subtle contrast between the lighter shade of Revere Pewter and the darker shade of Rockport Gray. I tried to choose colors that would be classic neutral beiges and grays that would compliment the natural landscape and surroundings of our home.

The shed is also painted Rockport Gray to match the main house, and we’re planning to add a copper lantern there too.
