Cottage Bedroom Ideas: Refresh Bedding
One of my favorite ways to refresh a bedroom for summer is by simply changing out the bedding. While it’s tempting to think a seasonal update requires a complete bedroom makeover, I’ve found that something as simple as swapping a heavier blanket for a lightweight quilt or coverlet can completely transform the feel of the space.

For this summer refresh, I added a beautiful floral coverlet from Quince, and it instantly gave the room the cottage feel I was hoping for. The floral pattern feels timeless and vintage-inspired, almost like something you might discover at an antique shop or estate sale. Those are the kinds of details I always gravitate toward when decorating a cottage style bedroom.

I layered the floral coverlet with Quince’s organic cotton stitch coverlet in blue, which added just the right amount of soft color while keeping the overall look light and airy. The combination feels fresh for spring or summer without straying from the cozy, collected style that I love.

One thing I appreciate about Quince bedding is its focus on quality materials and classic designs. Their pieces are made with premium fabrics, but the patterns and colors remain timeless rather than trendy. That makes them easy to mix with existing bedding and decor, which is especially helpful when you’re simply looking to refresh a room instead of completely redecorating it.

The best part is that this one simple change made the entire bedroom feel brighter and more seasonal. If you’re looking for an easy way to update your space, starting with your bedding is one of the most impactful cottage bedroom ideas to try.
Add Cottage-Inspired Florals and Textiles
After updating the bedding, a few small textile changes can help carry that fresh late spring and early summer feeling throughout the room. Throw pillows, pillow covers, and lightweight blankets are some of the easiest ways to introduce seasonal color and pattern without making major changes. I also swapped out my cream colored curtains with a beautiful denim blue to add some of that color I’ve been craving.

For a cottage bedroom, floral prints are always a favorite. Soft botanical patterns bring charm and character to a space while brining the feeling of the outdoors inside. I especially love incorporating shades of blue during the early summer months because they feel calming, fresh, and pair beautifully with my vintage decor.
Layering patterns is another simple way to add interest. I love mixing florals with subtle stripes, ticking fabrics, or textured linens to create a collected, cottage look. The goal isn’t perfection; it’s creating a space that feels comfortable, welcoming, and thoughtfully selected.

Even a simple floral throw blanket draped across a bench or chair can make a bedroom feel more seasonal. These small updates may seem minor, but together they can completely change the mood of a room.
Use Artwork to Create a Seasonal Cottage Feel
Artwork is another decorating element that can have a surprising impact on the overall feel of a bedroom.

Landscape paintings, botanical prints, and artwork featuring soft greens, blues, and florals all help reinforce a fresh, cottage atmosphere. These pieces bring color and life into a room in the same way that fresh flowers or greenery do. I actually have a few pieces of original artwork I painted that you can shop here.

One of my favorite places to find artwork is at thrift stores, antique shops, and estate sales. Vintage paintings often have a character and charm that’s difficult to find in new store-bought pieces, and they fit beautifully in a cottage style home.

If a bedroom feels like it’s missing something, adding a thoughtfully chosen piece of artwork can make a big difference. Whether it’s hung above a dresser, layered on a shelf, or incorporated into a gallery wall, artwork helps create the collected and personal feel that makes cottage decorating so special.
Cottage Bedroom Ideas: Shop Your Home Before You Shop the Store
While buying new decor for your home can be a fun way to refresh your space, don’t forget to shop your own home! Move decor pieces around or rotate your blankets and throw pillows seasonally. Reuse pieces in your room like baskets, pillows or artwork in new ways. You can absolutely give your space a fresh look and keep costs low by using items you already own.

Creating a bedroom refresh doesn’t require a large budget. Try starting out with one or two simple changes and then build from there.
