If you follow me over on YouTube, you know that in recent years I have been sharing more simple day in the life vlogs about homemaking. I even shared a video about finding beauty in the mundane as a homemaker. It is truly my passion to show how much joy and purpose are to be discovered in the high calling God has blessed me with.

Make Homemaking Beautiful

I know some view homemaking as an old-fashioned concept, and that truly breaks my heart. The negative connotation that sometimes arises when I tell someone that I’m a stay at home mom has given me the motivation to change how we view homemaking as a society. The management of a home is truly a lost art form, and what a great blessing and very worthwhile enterprise to be the keepers of our own homes!

Laughing and Cherishing Every Moment with Your Children

Even though homemaking is a worthy and beautiful profession, it is still a very big endeavor and a whole lot of work. We all know being a stay at home mom is no easy feat; there always seems to be an endless list of tasks and never enough time to get it all done. Meal planning, cooking, cleaning the clutter and just general chaos can be a gut check to our souls. We can easily start to view homemaking through a critical eye and our perceptions can change from one of joy to dismay.

Working Together with Your Children

We see other creators on Facebook and Instagram who show the best version of their lives and measure ourselves to a standard of perfection that has been edited and trimmed down for views. This can leave anyone (including me, who is a creator!) feeling like being a homemaker isn’t all that glamorous, and the monotony of day to day life can drag us down.

Making Homemaking a Beautiful Thing

And while there are always going to be hard days, weeks and seasons, a lot of how you view your calling as a homemaker comes down to mindset. The art of homemaking is making the most of the small things you experience every day. Finding beauty and intentionality in the most mundane task can help shift your outlook from one of drudgery to great joy.

Special Moments as a homemaker

So if you find yourself feeling stuck in a rut as a mom or a housewife, consider implementing these simple ways to make you love homemaking again:

  • Get ready every day
  • Get dressed
  • Invest in a pretty apron
  • Switch out everyday tools for items that bring more joy
  • Listen to beautiful music as you work
  • Tidy up daily

Get Ready Every Day

I know what you may be thinking: the only people who see me all day are my kids (and maybe the Amazon delivery driver haha) so what is the point in putting on makeup or doing my hair? I completely understand feeling unmotivated to get ready every day. However, I always feel more motivated and ready to take on the day when my hair and makeup is done.

Cherishing Every Moment

My mom set this example for me growing up and was always ready every day, even if my dad was out all day. Her example continued with me, and I feel much more prepared to face the day for it. Even a simple swipe of mascara and brushing my hair can give me the jumpstart I need to get going.

Enjoying Your Home and all that is in it

For me, putting on a little makeup is a form of self-care which I cover in my last YouTube video. Just like an oxygen mask in an airplane, it is important to take care of yourself so you are able to take care of others more effectively. I want my home to be a sanctuary, but I can’t give that to my boys if taking care of myself is an afterthought.

Get Dressed

Please understand, I am not saying in order to be a good homemaker and have a welcoming home that you have to wear makeup haha that would be a little extreme! I’m simply saying that getting out of your pajamas and putting a little effort into your appearance can go a long way.

Traditional Roles as a Homemaker

Maybe you don’t usually wear makeup, but you can modify how you get ready for the day. Sometimes we are so focused on our home’s appearance that we forget about our own! Yes, keeping a tidy home is important bus so is taking care of yourself. Getting dressed in a comfortable dress or a sweater with lounge pants are my go-to dress options and I’m ready to accomplish the bigger tasks for the day!

Invest In A Pretty Apron

I don’t know what it is about putting on an apron, but it adds to my enjoyment of being in the kitchen and cooking or baking for my family. Replacing a basic apron with one that brings you joy is a simple way to add beauty to your daily tasks.

Homemaking Moments in everyday life

For me, I like a striped apron but there are so many options out there! Frilly, floral or lacey – choose something that will make you smile every time you put in on.

Switch Out Every Day Tools

You can add to your day-to-day fun by switching out lots of things in your home with items that bring you more joy. For example, instead of a plastic laundry basket, I like to use beautiful wicker baskets. Invest in a set of pretty kitchen utensils or cookware. Give yourself the gift of your home by using items you love.

Making Everyday More Beautiful

Get some diy inspiration from Pinterest to transform an everyday object into something you truly love using. I just shared a whole blog post about how I turned some basic clear plastic storage bins into rustic under bed storage drawers! Simple little switch outs can make such an impact on your daily life. Think about the chores you complete every day and figure out ways you can bring some beauty into them simply with the objects or items you use.

Listen To Beautiful Music

Music has such a major impact on our lives! We have an Alexa set up in our home and I usually like to start my day with some soft, Christian music to set the mood for the day. You can keep your home positive through the music you listen to and it is an excellent way of upkeeping Christian values when you learn the songs and start to sing along.

Beautiful Moments as a Homemaker

What you listen to and consume can be the difference between a great week or a week full everything and everyone getting on your last nerves. Even listening to a funny podcast episode that brings laughter or an episode that brings you closer to the Lord will have positive end results. Be mindful of what you are consuming as primary caregivers and feed your soul with positive, uplifting entertainment.

Tidy Up Daily

Keeping your home tidy will help your mental state so much! A cluttered home will only lead to a cluttered mind. If you want your home to feel like a shelter when you walk through the front door, keep it tidy daily.

Cherishing Your Homemaking Role

As I walk through my home, if I notice something out of place, I will take a minute to return it to where it needs to go. This way I don’t get overwhelmed later in the day with a giant mess that feels like it will take forever to clean up.

  1. Such beautiful ideas, Andrea. Taking time to be intentional, creating and savoring beauty makes everything so much better… when I think about how many beautiful details Creator God invested in making something as lowly as an insect it feels like He left us an example of how we need to take time for beauty and delight as well. I am inspired by how you are doing this in your family and home. God bless!
