4 Cozy Fall Living Room Ideas (That Don’t Involve Pumpkins!)

Today I am sharing four cozy fall living room ideas that don’t require the usual fall pumpkin staple!

If you’re reading this cozy fall living room blog thinking, aw but I love pumpkins, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you check my fall home tour, you’ll see pumpkins sprinkled throughout my home. Even in this blog, you’ll see a mini pumpkin or two! So it’s completely fine if you love decorating with them.

I LOVE a good pumpkin for fall decor, but sometimes I want to add a subtle hint of autumn without going too literal. Today I want to show you my cozy fall living room and how I added a touch of fall without overloading on the pumpkins. If you love subtle seasonal decor, this post is for you!

Cozy Fall Living Room: Warm, Earthy Tones & Cozy Textures
One of the first things I like to do when the fall season rolls around is to bring in warm colors that reflect the time of year through decor and different textures. Now is the perfect time to either add or swap out your light and bright summer fabrics and textiles for heavier, cozy comfort materials. Fall colors like warm browns, jewel tones like rusty reds, and even mustard yellow will instantly add that warmth and cozy fall feel to your living space.

I love to use pillows, pillow covers, and plaid blankets in autumn colors to decorate for the season. I layer them on my couch or armchairs to make the space feel like fall. You can even consider swapping out your living room rug if you really want to commit haha For me, just a few pillows and blankets in chunky knits do the trick.

Fall hues are essential to set the mood for a cozy fall living room. Use the changing leaves as your color palette and bring those warm shades in. Add a dark vase to your side or coffee table full of fall stems. Swap out decor on your shelves or fireplace mantel with earthy toned crocs, candlesticks or pitchers. Fill your baskets with dried leaves! There are so many options to decorate for fall without the faux pumpkins!

Bring In Natural Elements
You all know by now that my favorite thrifty fall tip is to decorate with natural elements! You can bring in autumn tones without orange pumpkins through dried leaves and stems. Not only does using stems from your own yard and gardens bring in a fall color palette for your living room, it’s a great way to save money on fall decor!

I love using natural fall decor in different accessories from wood bowls to stone vases to wicker baskets. You’ll notice I have a bundle of dried hydrangeas in the basket on my shelves, and a few dried branches in the basket by my fireplace. You can absolutely transform your cozy living rooms for fall without using pumpkins through other rustic elements!

Swap Wall Art & Decor Accessories
Another great way to decorate your cozy fall living room is to swap out your wall art with moodier, fall prints! I have a little gallery wall going in a corner of my living room that I love to interchange with various paintings depending on the season. Art can really add so much depth to any space!

I love to search thrift stores and antique shops for artwork that reflects the time of year. Bring in the cozy season with an autumn landscape of changing leaves, fields of hay bails, or charming barns. The options are endless when it comes to art!

If you want to skip the stores, you can check out my original fall artwork here! Every Tuesday I offer a free download as well that you can sign up for here.

Consider rotating out your coffee table books for fall color stories, or using neutral seasonal signs and banners. I recently painted a little fall sign that says ‘Pumpkins’.
Cozy Fall Living Room: Add Subtle Seasonal Scents
One of my final secrets to transforming your cozy fall living rooms is to light fall scented candles! You all know I love Antique Candle Co. and their delicious autumnal scents, but really any fall flavored candle will do! Think pumpkin spice, apple pie or cinnamon for a fall palette! Scent is such a powerful tool!
