How To Style A Coffee Table: Start with a Stack of Coffee Table Books

I always like to keep a stack of books on my coffee table no matter the time of year. I feel as though books are really a classic coffee table staple, and they are so easy to decorate with! Home decor books are usually my go-to choice, but really any books will do!

Coffee table books

I usually try to find neutral colored books that compliment the colors in my living room. You can so many affordable, vintage books at thrift stores and antique shops. I love using old books for the character and charm they add to my coffee table.

I also love using books on my coffee table because they add height when you stack them and create a solid foundation for other decor. They are also so easy to swap depending on your style. I usually keep around two or three books on my coffee table, but you can customize the look depending on the size and thickness of the books you are using.

Add a Candle for Warmth

I am a big fan of candles in home decor! A lit candle can really just add so much ambiance and coziness to any space. I use Antique Candle Co. candles all throughout my home as they are made from high-quality ingredients and are just so pretty to look haha However, I also really like using just a plain taper candle in an antique or pottery candleholder. Even unlit, candles can add color and texture to your coffee table.

How To Style A Coffee Table: Finish with Greenery

The last step in how to style a coffee table is to finish the look with some greenery! Either fresh or faux, a touch of green adds color and life to a coffee table. I love to use fresh stems when I have them, especially during lilac season! However, winter in Michigan limits my access to fresh stems from my yard, so I also use faux stems.

Another great part of using greenery on your coffee table is being able to use a beautiful vase or pot to display them in. I usually prefer to use stoneware crocks or vases for my arrangements.

Keep It Simple

Remember, coffee tables don’t have to be crowded. I like leaving enough open space so the table is still functional for drinks, books, etc. Just a few stacked books, a lit candle and a little arrangement of stems will make a big impact in your living room.
