Why We Love Homemade Kefir
I love to make my own homemade kefir and you can actually purchase your own kefir starter grains online! I love making my own ingredients because there’s something so satisfying about knowing exactly what goes into them. It gives me peace of mind knowing I’m using quality, wholesome, all natural ingredients for my family. There are a lot of resources online to guide you through how to make homemade kefir, but to simplify it for you, I’ll give you some basic steps!

To make homemade kefir, add about 1 tablespoon of active kefir grains to 2 cups of fresh milk in a glass jar. Cover the jar with a breathable cloth and let it sit on the counter for 18 to 24 hours. Once it has thickened, strain out the kefir grains and refrigerate the finished kefir until you’re ready to use it. Don’t forget to save the grains so you can start your next batch!

If you’ve never had kefir before, think of it as a drinkable yogurt that’s full of good bacteria your gut will love. It’s naturally rich in probiotics, calcium, protein, and other nutrients that support overall health. Since the fermentation process uses up much of the milk’s natural lactose, many people also find kefir easier to digest than regular milk. It’s one of my favorite simple, homemade foods because it’s so nourishing and easy to make.

Kefir Smoothie Recipe
These smoothies are so simple! They take no time at all to make, and are both delicious and healthy.

Simply add the strained kefir, bananas, frozen fruit, and honey to a blender, then blend until smooth and creamy.

Give it a quick taste and add a little more honey if you’d like it sweeter. Pour into glasses and enjoy right away for the freshest flavor!

Kefir Smoothie Popsicles
To make popsicles, pour the finished smoothie into popsicle molds, insert the sticks, and freeze for at least 4–6 hours, or until completely firm.

While I found this particular popsicle mold at Marshalls, you can purchase a similar mold here! Truly just about any popsicle mold will work for this recipe.

These make a refreshing, gut-friendly frozen treat that’s perfect for kids and adults!

We love having these popsicles on hand for a quick and easy treat on those warm summer days in the backyard by the pool!
