DIY Christmas Hymn Garland
Today Iโm going to share a simple DIY Christmas garland for your Christmas tree! This holiday garland is so easy and festive, and the best part is that it cost me nothing to create!

Thanks for stopping by today friends! I am SO excited to start sharing all things Christmas! Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday, and while I love to switch up my Christmas decor year after year, Iโd rather not spend a fortune on decorations.
If you follow me as a blogger, you know I love to create my own diy Christmas decorations. From adding eucalyptus leaves or holly berries to a cedar and pine garland, or drying orange slices for a kitchen garland, I am all about beautiful and affordable decor!
This year I really wanted to keep my Christmas tree simple, and as I was brainstorming garland ideas, I thought about what I love most about this time of year.
One thing (there were several) that came to mind immediately was Christmas music. I just love Christmas music! I pretty much have it playing all day long around here, and there is nothing more special than being surrounded by twinkling Christmas lights and hearing festive music in the background.
Even the mundane tasks like folding laundry and washing dishes are so much better when listening to Christmas music, HA!
I found some beautiful ribbon at Hobby Lobby with music notes on it, but I knew I could create a diy garland for far less money. Plus, I love creating diy Christmas decorations!ย
So letโs get started! Hereโs how I made my DIY Christmas hymn garland.

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR YOUR DIY CHRISTMAS HYMN GARLAND

An old hymnal
Scissors
Jute Twine
Scotch Tape
STEPS FOR MAKING YOUR DIY CHRISTMAS HYMN GARLAND
Step 1
Start with an old hymnal. I happened to already have some (we found ours in the basement when we moved in), but you could search thrift stores or consignment shops as well.
If you donโt have any luck finding one second-hand, you could always just print off some of your favorite Christmas hymns or songs! I simply tore out some of my favorite Christmas hymns and used a bunch of the clippings to create my garland.ย
Step 2
Fold your hymn page in half, then fold over again. Essentially youโre trying to get four pieces out of one hymn page.ย

Step 3
Cut along your folded lines, then cut a wide, upside-down โVโ from the bottom of each piece. There’s plenty of templates you can use if you’d prefer your banner to have a different shape.

Step 4
Fold the top of each each hymn piece over by about a quarter inch. It doesnโt have to be perfect!

Step 5
Slip your twine under the fold of each hymn piece and then tape or glue the fold down using scotch tape. I spaced each hymn โtagโ about a 1.5 inches apart. You could also use baker’s twine, yarn or thread, but I personally prefer the look of jute twine! You can find the materials you need in any craft store.ย

If youโd like, tie a loop at the end of your garland to make it easier to hang on a tree branch.
And thatโs it! How simple was that?! I love to swag my garland in different directions all over the Christmas tree. I love the charm and texture it adds combined with my ornaments, and the old hymn pages have such a vintage look.ย
This garland is so versatile, and could be used on a wreath, in greenery, on your staircase banister, or even your fireplace mantel! It’s also a great craft to get your kids involved in!

Such a simple yet great tutorial! After a Christmas tree mishap last year that resulted in broken ornaments and scratched resurfaced floors I decided to look for a different way to decorate this year. I fell in love with this garland as soon as I saw it, and I think it’s just what I’ve been looking for! Can’t wait to repurpose my old hymn book.
