Hey friends! Back in November I told you guys how excited I was to decorate my boys’ bedroom for Christmas. We gave their room a little makeover earlier this year, and as soon as we finished it I could already imagine it at Christmas time!
We put the most beautiful tree in their bedroom this year, and I went to work looking for ideas on Pinterest for how I would decorate it.
I rounded up some Christmas inspiration for their room here, and honestly I was leaning towards a vintage toy themed tree. I planned on going thrifting and picking up some toys and maybe even some letter blocks and flash cards.

When I shared my idea with the boys however, the look on their faces said it all. They didn’t like my toy idea!! Mike and I were laughing so hard. Man my boys are picky! Ethan had a vision for the tree and he knew exactly what he wanted for their room. Who does he get that from I wonder?? Haha!
So what theme did they choose? Animals, of course! My boys LOVE animals. They found the cutest animal ornaments and told me that’s what they wanted. So an animal themed boys Christmas bedroom is what we started working on!

At one point I even tried adding some ribbon to their tree when Ethan walked in and caught me. “Mom! No ribbon. We just want animals, garland and some round bulbs.”

My husband thought it was pretty hilarious, but I gave in and ended up going with their plan. It’s their tree, after all, and I wanted them to love it.
I still tried to guide them in the right direction of course. I purchased shatter proof bulbs that matched the colors in their room. I used a wooden bead garland for their tree that was on my living room tree last year.
For the tree skirt, I used a thrifted blue and green blanket that matched their room perfectly!
I wanted to continue the animal theme throughout their room, and I found the cutest vintage book entitled “Animal Parade” for a dollar and used the pretty pages to create a garland for their shelves.

I love the vintage feel that the garland adds and how it ties in to the precious animal ornaments on their tree.

I also used some faux cedar garland on top of the shelves above their bed, as well as a faux cedar wreath above the chair in the opposite corner. I purchased both at Goodwill last year, but they are the Hearth and Hand brand from Target.

I love the pretty juniper berries and how they tie in to the blue on the walls!

I placed a few simple Christmas trees on the nightstand with a few animals around them to continue to tie in the theme throughout the room.

Another thing I LOVE about their room this year are the adorable stockings from my friend Rhonda over at Hallstrom Home. The cream, blue and ticking stripe patterns tie in perfectly to their bedding! I just love them so much!

So what do you guys think of this animal themed boys Christmas bedroom? It’s whimsical and fun, isn’t it? I think they did a good job deciding on a theme, and I love how involved they were in the decorating this year!

Hi Andrea! The animal theme is a GREAT idea! Something new and unique. I am a grandma looking for new creative gift ideas and will most definitely check out Kiwico. Can you tell me which corbels and size you used under the shelves in the boys bedroom? Such a wonderful addition to the room for storage or display. I LOVE your blog and youtube videos!!!
That is such a special room for your boys. I love that they have their own opinions on what they wanted. As a Mom of two boys and grandma to four boys, it is great to be teaching these things, so that they learn to think for themselves. Merry Christmas, love your blogs.
The boys’ room is so adorable. I think they did a great job of picking their theme. Their room over all is adorable. I love how you decorate–minimally but with such warmth.
