This fall, one of our neighbors let us come and pick apples off of his trees. What a blessing! All of my boys love snacking on apples, and I enjoy baking with them as well. They fill the house with a warm, delicious scent that’s perfect for the fall season!
You can use whatever apples you like, but I tend to enjoy more tart apples for baking since you’re combining them with a lot of sweet. I’ve also switched out the apples with pears, peaches, and even strawberries and rhubarb in the past!

For this crisp, start by pre-heating your oven to 375 degrees. Once you have pre-heated your oven, you simply need a dish or pan to bake the crisp in, a knife, peeler, cutting board, mixing bowl and your ingredients!
Begin washing and peeling each apple. Then, cut them into small slices about a quarter inch thick so that they can easily be layered in the bottom of your greased dish or pan.

Once your sliced apples fill the bottom of your baking dish, begin mixing the rest of the ingredients together in a separate bowl. I just use my hands and mix it all together until the topping holds together when you squeeze it in your hand.

Then, simply sprinkle the mixed ingredients over your apple slices. The butter with the dry ingredients should almost make a crumbled texture, I just use my fingers to evenly sprinkle it over the apples for the delicious topping on the crisp.

Once you have an even layer of crisp, place it in the oven and bake it until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender. Usually, this takes about 30 minutes.

I love to serve it warm with vanilla ice cream, but whipped cream would work just as well!

Who doesn’t love apple crisp? Andrea, I would cut the sugar way back. One and a half cups of brown sugar is really decadent. Next time you make it, try just a cup and you can go even lower. You will probably still like it with the decreased amount.
Mmmm, sounds so delicious! I can’t wait to make it. It’s the perfect dessert for autumn.
My favorite dessert is apple crisp. Brings to mind so many wonderful autumn memories. Andrea, I think your amount of sugar is just perfect. Thank you so much for sharing. Happy Harvest Season!
Thank you Sally, I am so happy you enjoy it as much as I do!
This looks so yummy. Which gluten free flour do you use?

I normally use the Walmart brand or Pillsbury! I hope that helps!

Hi Andrea. I finally made your apple crisp today. It is as delish as I imagined. The topping got so nice and crispy, just perfect! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. I wanted to put a picture of the crisp I baked with this comment but I am not tech savvy so it didn’t work. I will be making this crisp for Thanksgiving instead of apple pie. Please enjoy your week!
I am so happy to read that you enjoyed it, I love how simple it is!
