Fire Pit Seating Ideas: How To Create A Cozy Backyard For Fall

Today I’m sharing our cozy backyard fire pit area, along with some simple fire pit seating ideas, our new Adirondack chairs, and a few tips for enjoying your outdoor space all fall.

Look, I love summer, and I’m definitely not ready for summer to end! If you live in or near Michigan, maybe you can understand and empathize with the sadness that comes when summer starts to wind down. However, I know many of my friends here can’t wait for the cooler months to arrive, so today I thought I would share a few fire pit seating ideas for those of you who are already dreaming about cozy fall bonfires!

With September fast approaching, today’s post is all about our fire pit and simple seating setup for inspiration. We recently added some new Adirondack chairs, and they have really changed the look and feel of this space! With our new flagstone patio and our cozy little fire pit area, we are so happy with how our backyard is coming together.

How We Built Our Simple Fire Pit
We built this simple fire pit many years ago, long before we added our flagstone patio. We used landscape pavers to create the circular wall and added a metal fire pit ring on the inside. We finished the top with flat pavers to give it a more finished look. It was a fairly simple project, and we love how it turned out!

We’ve enjoyed this little fire pit for many years now, and it has become such a cozy spot in our backyard. I love that you don’t need to do anything elaborate to create a welcoming place to gather around a fire. Sometimes the simplest projects end up being the ones we enjoy the most!
Why We Chose Adirondack Chairs for Our Fire Pit
We previously had white Adirondack chairs surrounding our fire pit for many years. While I loved the white chairs and they held up incredibly well, the pollen was so bad each year that, over time, it progressively stained the chairs a shade of yellow. Mike would do his best to power wash the pollen off, but eventually, they got to the point where even the power washer wasn’t cutting it.

We decided to switch to black Adirondack chairs, and I absolutely love the look in our backyard. The black really grounds the space and contrasts nicely with the stone fire pit. Adirondack chairs have such a classic look, but they’re also comfortable and casual enough for relaxing around the fire. These chairs even have a built-in cup and phone holder, plus a retractable ottoman!
Why We Love Having a Fire Pit Seating Area
We love having a designated seating area around our fire pit because it creates an easy gathering spot for bonfires, or even just for outdoor get-togethers without a fire. Arranging the chairs around the fire pit makes conversation feel easy and natural since everyone is facing one another, and it creates a cozy, inviting space to gather.

As a family, we often find ourselves sitting around the fire pit at the end of the day, which gives us a little more time to enjoy our backyard. It’s especially cozy on crisp autumn nights, and having a designated seating area makes outdoor entertaining feel simple and effortless.

I never want summer to end, but I’m so thankful for our fire pit that can be enjoyed both in the summer and the fall! I’m definitely looking forward to some cozy, autumn bonfires.
