Today I’m sharing how we built our breadboard display rack!

Happy Friday Friends! Last week on the blog, I shared my favorite thrift store finds, one of them being my breadboard collection! After years of collecting vintage wooden breadboards, I knew I wanted to display the various shapes and sizes in my home to enjoy their beauty daily. I had a vision of a breadboard display rack, and my husband Mike helped make that dream a reality!

If you have followed along on YouTube, Instagram or Facebook, you have likely seen my breadboard display rack many times. I often get messages about this diy project and thought I’d share a little template of how we built ours.

We first began by installing a piece of beadboard on the small vertical space of wall in between my dining room window and my kitchen. I thought that would be the perfect spot for a breadboard holder, as it would be a handy location for both using them while eating at the dining room table or displaying fresh sourdough bread on them in the kitchen!

The beadboard we installed was purchased from Menards, but you don’t have to use beadboard. You could any piece of wood or plywood, but I like the look of beadboard and we have plenty of it on hand from the various projects we have completed around our home!

After we cut it down to the right size, we attached it to the wall with 1 1/4 brad nails. Mike usually nails all of the corners, as well as a few on the edges for extra durability. If you would like further instructions on how to install beadboard, you can read my blog post about it here!

After the beadboard was nailed in, we started working on the frame. We built off of the existing board and batten for the base, the sides are all 1×2’s and we used 1x4s for the middle and bottom piece. We simply nailed them directly into the beadboard. My husband simply used a nail gun to do this, but a hammer would work as well.

Once the frame was nailed in, we then ripped 1×1 narrow strips of wood and nailed them into the frame to hold the breadboards in place. I caulked all of the edges and nail holes to ensure a seamless finish and then painted the wood surface of the entire display rack. You could also sand and stain the wood if you’d prefer a natural wood look. Because I was displaying wooden breadboards, I wanted the white paint to contrast with the texture and warmth of the boards.

And that’s it friends! A very easy, diy project that probably only took us a couple hours total to complete and our supply list was comprised of a lot of materials we already had on hand. You could also use this display rack to show off a collection of pretty dishes as well, making it a versatile display piece. I absolutely love our breadboard display rack and being able to see my beautiful collection of breadboards every time I walk into my kitchen! Do you collect breadboards?
