It’s been a while since my last blog post, we’ve been enjoying this warm weather here in Michigan! I’ve always felt that summertime just isn’t long enough. It goes by so fast and I want to soak up every single moment! I do, however, have so many fun projects I want to share with you guys! Not only have we been busy outside working on our gardens, patio space and porch, we’ve slowly been working to makeover our master bedroom space as well.
This is what our bedroom looked like when we moved into our home in 2012 (apologies for the poor photo quality):
Since moving in, our bedroom has always been last on the list of projects. While the space itself is large yet cozy due to the low ceilings, the furniture in our room was a mixture of hand-me-downs and thrift store finds that I never got the chance to makeover. We made small changes over the years, but our bedroom has never been a space that I truly loved.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t eager to start on our bedroom because I knew it was going to be a loooooong road with endless projects. But this past March my husband and I agreed that it was finally time to take the plunge and get this makeover started.
Just to give you an idea, here’s a list of all the projects we’ve completed since March:
- DIY board and batten walls
- All walls and trim re-painted (ourselves)
- Dresser makeover
- Desk makeover
- DIY headboard
- Reupholstered bench
- DIY abstract art
- DIY lumbar pillow cover
- Reupholstered child chair
Phew! See what I mean? So enough explanation, time for some photos! I’m not quite ready to show you our bed area, but today I would like to show you the little sitting area we have in our room. We knew we wanted a small couch, but we didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I was searching yard sale sights and praying I’d find something affordable, when in May I received an email from a company called Sofamania.
Sofamania is an online, designer furniture company that not only offers a variety of styles both beautiful and trendy, but also very affordable as well! When they contacted me about a collaboration, I couldn’t be more thrilled. It actually took me a while to decide on a sofa because they just had SO many amazing options! Eventually my husband and I agreed that the Arthur Classic Lines Storage Sofa would be the best choice for our space, and I can’t wait to tell you why! We chose the gray option, but here’s the sofa in beige:
Isn’t it beautiful?! I loved the combination of clean, contemporary lines with a traditional nail head trim. The sofa arrived in one box, and it was so easy to assemble!
We took all the pieces upstairs and began to put them together, no tools required!
After screwing the legs into the base, the other pieces simply slid together.
One of my favorite features when assembling this sofa was how the back cushions attached to the body with a zipper! Now I don’t have to worry about the cushions moving or shifting, perfect for children. But what truly sold us on this sofa was the storage aspect. Can you believe that the seat cushions actually open up?!
How amazing is that?! In my experience, you can never have enough storage! So without further ado, let me show you how I styled this lovely piece. I will say that it’s a bit darker in person than the online photo. I wanted to brighten it up with lighter linens, and I am truly loving the final product.
We painted our walls “Halo” by Benjamin Moore, and we also added some board and batten to the half wall behind the couch. It’s a subtle change but it definitely adds character and contrast.
For the coffee table, I used an old crate that was headed to the trash. I simply turned it upside down and added a a canvas runner.
The striped throw was a Goodwill find (brand new with Target tags!) and the white pillow covers are from Ikea. I love how the light linens brighten the sofa and give it a more casual, cozy feel. 🙂
And let’s not forget the best part of this sofa, the storage!
For now, I’m using the sofa to store all of our music and DVD’s, as well as some spare bed sheets. Isn’t that so amazing? I’m just so happy with it!
So that’s the new sitting area. What do you think? 🙂 I can’t wait to show you the rest of the bedroom! Have a wonderful day friends! Thanks for stopping by!
